So interpretation is the practice of making meaning in a text, and representation is how we formalise it? I like the rigour here, and just want to get my head around it, if possible. Great post. I think I'm doing the same thing, albeit, your framing is more intellectual. I create an experience in the classroom (I.e. making a loaf of bread); we then discuss the experience from multiple perspectives (bread as a symbol or object of significance across cultures); and then produce a writing assignment in a related format (I.e. a recipe, giving space for commentary).
Collapsing the distance between theory and practice provides meaningful material for the generation of writing and discourse. The experiential aspect of the classes also makes learning a lot of fun.
